VK Messenger

VK is a Russian-based online social media and networking service, similar to Facebook. It is available for everyone around the world but its mainly popular among the Russian-speaking population. For VK users who need a quick and convenient way of keeping in touch comes VK Messenger, a lightweight application designed for communication, work, etc.

You are greeted by a minimalist interface, which might give the impression that it lacks features. At first glance you may think that this tool is just a simple instant messenger, but you might be surprised to find out that it supports extra features, such as photo selection for albums or the ability to send videos and documents.

The application boasts a rich roster of emojis that allow you to add color to your chat windows. They come in two sizes: the typical small emojis that you are used to creating via keyboard, and the larger, more detailed emojis. Also worth noting is that each message can be bookmarked with a star for faster future reference, which can be seen from the "Starred messages" tab.

Some types of attachments that you may send are photos, documents, and videos. It is worth mentioning that during our testing on Windows 10 x64, the option of sending video files did not seem to function properly, since this was only possible through the "send document" option.

When sending URLs from popular video sites such as YouTube or Metacafe, neither sender or receiver could preview the video from the chat window which, considering that it's a feature many other popular instant messengers have, is a real drawback.

From the settings menu you have many chat and app customization options such as the ability to toggle notifications for specific people, search within your conversation or clear the chat history. You may also change account details, such as phone number or e-mail address from the instant messenger, removing the need to go to your VK profile within the browser to modify your credentials.

Similar to other social networking platforms, you can blacklist unpleasant individuals and join communities that share common interests and receive notifications whenever they post something relevant.
