If you’re listening to a stream while playing a game, you may wish to follow what’s being said in the chat without switching to your browser or the Twitch desktop application. Even some streamers like display the chat on their screen for their viewers’ convenience.

Transparent Twitch Chat Overlay is an open-source program that lets you see the Twitch that on your desktop via a transparent overlay. It can even be viewed in games, but it offers very few customization options.

Once you’ve downloaded the program, you can run it as soon as the archive is unpacked. Installation is not required, and you can configure everything by just right-clicking the tray icon.

Essentially, all you need to do is provide the name of a channel from the tray menu or by pressing F8. The application will connect to the channel and display the live Twitch chat on your desktop.

This application can come in handy if you are listening to a stream while playing a game. Provided it is in windowed or borderless windowed mode, the Twitch chat window will be visible even while you are playing.

Many streamers also prefer to display the chat on their screen so that viewers can see what is being said even if they are watching in full-screen mode.

You can hide the transparent window’s border and also have each message fade out after a certain amount of time. However, it is not possible to change the size of the window or the style or dimensions of the font.

Transparent Twitch Chat Overlay is a useful piece of software that still needs a bit of work. It can help both Twitch viewers and streamers, but it could use a few more features.
