Emoji Keyboard

When you realize how many emojis have been created, and how many sets are available, it’s no wonder that it is difficult to keep track of them all. If you want to use them in chat, or be able to type them in other situations on a moment’s notice, you’re going to need some help.

This is where Emoji Keyboard comes to your aid. It is a relatively simple application that runs in the system tray and enables you to bring up an on-screen keyboard at any time, and then select the emoji you want to use with a couple of key presses.

At first, you may not realize Emoji Keyboard is even running. It is minimized to the system tray automatically, and you can access it by either pressing Caps Lock or double-clicking the tray icon. You can still use the regular Caps Lock with the Shift+Caps Lock hotkey.

The on-screen keyboard will remain on top of all other windows, and it temporarily disables regular keyboard input while it is active. Emojis are organized into categories, and you can type any of them by just pressing their assigned keys.

The application supports a large number of different keymaps, and you can also switch between a light and dark theme, enable or disable UI transparency and set the window’s default dimensions.

However, all these customizations need to be performed by editing the webapp.json file in a regular text editor. While the process isn’t terribly complex, it is inconvenient and certainly not novice-friendly.

In the end, Emoji Keyboard is a well-designed application that features a modern UI and is very unobtrusive. It allows you to use an extensive collection of Microsoft emojis, using the Twemoji Pack as a backup, and it can be accessed with a simple hotkey.

However, some users will not appreciate the fact that the program can only be configured by manually editing a JSON file, so we hope that it will be possible to change various settings directly from the main UI in future releases.
