Media Downloader

As its name suggests, Media Downloader allows you to grab multimedia files from the Internet. What is interesting about it is that it provides a front-end for multiple other console-based tools that allow media downloading.

The JSON extensions that can be embedded into Media Downloader are as follows: yt-dlp, youtube-dl, gallery-dl, lux, you-get, svtplay-dl, aria2c, wget and safari books. You might already be familiar with some of them, while others might be new to you, but the fact is that this application can provide a GUI for each. The only trick is that you must install them as JSON plugins.

The default plugin is yt-dlp, which cannot be removed. However, this console application comes with support for major video sharing platforms, so it should be enough for most users. Thus, Media Downloader allows you to download videos from YouTube and other major sites.

Media Downloader features a simplistic tab-based interface that accesses three of its major functions: the basic downloader, the batch downloader and the playlist downloader.

The basic downloader can grab one file at a time from the provided URL, with or without additional options that are passed forward as parameters. You can easily select the engine name from a drop-down menu and choose the quality of the output from a list of presets.

It is also possible to download multiple videos in one go thanks to the batch downloader. You can add as many URLs as you want to the download list, while all the other options stay the same.

The playlist downloader can process videos in a playlist one by one and, although this operation might take longer, it is more comfortable than downloading videos one by one.

Media Downloader allows concurrent downloads and ensures high-speed operations. It provides a user-friendly GUI that can be used for downloading media from any website supported by the plugins, which makes it quite an interesting application. You can use it for simple, batch or playlist downloads, which pretty much covers all the requirements you might have from a video downloader.
