When it comes to grabbing videos from the Internet, the online world is quite resourceful. Although their functionality is not too complicated, not all the video downloaders out there are user friendly. For instance, while experienced users might not find it difficult to work with a console tool such as yt-dlp, others might prefer to have their videos downloaded using a GUI-based application, such as Stacher.

Stacher is, in fact, a frontend for the yt-dlp, combining the powerful functionality of the latter with the perks of working with a modern-looking GUI.  It is important to mention that Stacher automatically installs yt-dlp on startup, but you can configure it to use any fork application. You are, however, notified, so the download is initiated with your consent.

The application features an elegant, black-themed GUI, allowing you to paste the URL of the video to download in the dedicated field. Batch downloading is not available at this time, so if you need Stacher to grab multiple videos at once, you will have to provide their URLs one by one and initiate the downloads one at a time.

Stacher loads the video thumbnail and reveals its size, the download speed and the elapsed time before the download is completed. You can restart the download with a click and navigate to the source URL just as easily, from the right-click menu. The download location is easily accessible as well.

A few additional settings allow you to modify the download location and change the filename of the output file automatically. A template is provided, and a few extra naming options are available.

Stacher comes with additional post processing options: you can use the video thumbnail as the album cover or art and manage video chapters, if any. There are naming options for chapters as well.

It is also worth mentioning that Stacher enables you to enter a command to execute automatically once the download is completed.
