If you stumble upon an MSG file, know that it is probably created by Outlook and contains either an email message with all its components (sender, recipient, date, body, subject), an appointment, a contact or a task. If the format is not suitable for your needs, then you can easily convert it to EML (another proprietary format of Outlook) with a little help from a lightweight application with a name that is more than suggestive: MSG 2 EML.

The purpose of this application is to help you quickly and easily convert email messages from one format to another, namely from MSG to EML, without data loss. It features both an installer-based and a portable edition, your choice but, as you probably know already, the portable edition requires no installation and leaves no footprints on the host computer.

Before moving forward to let you know how the conversion process actually works, it is worth mentioning that MSG 2 EML also supports batch conversions. In other words, not only that you can convert individual MSG files, but you can also configure it to process multiple MSG files at once and have them all converted in one go.

Working with MSG 2 EML is more than intuitive. MSG 2 EML requires you to provide the location of the MSG files to convert. You can either select an individual email file or pick a folder and let the application find all the compatible MSG files inside it. Subfolders can be analyzed as well, if needed.

To proceed, you are also required to enter the destination path where all the output files will be saved. MSG 2 EML can preserve the folder structure from the source and save the internet transport headers upon request. Situations when a file already exists are easily handled.
