Mail Terrier

Most email clients offer built-in search options but, usually, their filtering capabilities are limited to a single keyword or phrase. Mail Terrier provides a smarter alternative, focusing on finding the email message you are looking for not just in a mailbox, but also in locally stored email-related files.

Upon launch, Mail Terrier prompts you to select the data sources to analyze, whether it is the Microsoft Outlook folder or any other directory. You can point to the folder where your emails are located but it is easier to allow the application to scan the computer and find all the supported files itself.

The list of emails is displayed in a panel within the main window, where you can check and uncheck emails to include or exclude in the search, respectively. Just like you are probably used to, you can preview an email's content by clicking on it. Mail Terrier displays the header, the subject, and the mail's body, in HTML and text format.

Initiating a new search is easy. The filters can include combinations of keywords and phrases located in the email body, the headers, or both. The resulting condition to match can be edited manually in the "Source" tab. On the downside, there are no other filtering options aside from text-based keywords and phrases. For instance, maybe it would have been beneficial to search for emails based on their sending date or other fields as well.

Mail Terrier remembers the search history and displays it in a separate panel, allowing you to explore the search results whenever needed. It features built-in wizards to help you export matching emails, together with their attachments, header and footer data, to various formats (PDF, text. TIFF, EML, MSG, XPS). Alternatively, you can print the messages on paper or generate reports.

Mail Terrier provides a simple and convenient means of finding email messages in a large mailbox, ensuring compatibility with formats created by most mail clients, namely PST, MBOX, MSG, EML, MIM, or EMLX. Its advantages are related to the processing speed and the complex filtering conditions it can apply.
