Caffeine - Keep Awake

Caffeine - Keep Awake is a simple browser addon that can keep your computer awake in case you don’t need it to hibernate or enter sleep mode. By using this simple addon, you avoid having to re-configure the power settings in Windows.

There are various situations when you might need your PC to stay awake. For instance, when you have an on-going download and you do not want the network connection to get interrupted or when you are holding a presentation and you know that you might not be touching the mouse for a longer period of time. Evidently, you don’t want the PC to enter sleep mode or dim the screen light in such situations. With Caffeine - Keep Awake installed in Chrome, this should not happen.

Once you install the extension in Chrome, you will find a new coffee cup icon in the usual place: the toolbar next to the address bar. While this icon is not gray, know that the computer’s power settings are practically overridden. In other words, while Caffeine - Keep Awake is active, there is no chance that the screen dims or a screensaver is started.

There are two available modes for Caffeine - Keep Awake.  First, the “Display” mode prevents the monitors connected to your computer from running screensavers or dimming. The other mode, called “System” broadens the restriction, preventing the entire operating system from entering a power-saving mode.

There are no additional settings to configure, so working with Caffeine - Keep Awake is pretty simple. You can pin in to the toolbar to be able to have the icon in sight at all times and set the active mode with a few clicks.

Why use an extension instead of changing the power settings in Windows? Simple. It is much convenient and it fits temporary situations, such as during presentations or downloading large files.
