Frame By Frame for Chrome

Whether you are watching a video on a dedicated platform or enjoy an embedded clip on a page you are visiting, you might want or need to capture a frame you like. Hitting the snapshot button at exactly the time a frame is displayed is rather difficult, but you can try out the Frame By Frame Chrome extension to switch to the next frame easier.

The extension is easily installed in Chrome and a new button is placed in the extensions area, right next to the browser’s address bar. The add-on is always active, which makes it possible to switch frames on any video you play in Chrome.

To see the video frames, all you have to do is move the mouse cursor over any video that plays in Google Chrome. A semi-transparent window is shown, comprising information about the current frame time, the total duration of the video, the frame number and the frame rate. Pausing the video and using the arrow buttons on the keyboard allows you to switch to the next frame with ease. Holding down the “Shift” key with the arrows will move ten frames instead of one.

There are a few additional settings that you can customize via the extension’s main menu. For instance, it is possible to change the background color of the transparent window, as well as the color of the outline and the text. It is possible to blur the background or change the opacity level using the available sliders.

When watching a video in full screen mode, it is highly possible that you don’t want the Frame By Frame window to be displayed on top of it. Keep in mind that Frame By Frame can be configured to automatically hide its window in fullscreen mode. Alternatively, you can hide the Frame By Frame popup with the "i" key.

One more thing needs to be said: please keep in mind that Frame By Frame requires permission to read and modify the data on the pages you visit, so as to be able to change frame by frame control of a video.
