Grammarly Dark for Chrome

If your work involves a lot of proofreading, then we’re sure you’ve heard about Grammarly, one of the best writing/grammar checking tools out there. Even though Grammarly has a lot going for it in terms of features, the service is not particularly well-suited when it comes to helping its users get work done in poorly lit environments – to be more precise, it does boast a dark mode.

That’s exactly why Grammarly Dark for Chrome was created. It’s a lightweight and straightforward Chrome extension that provides a dark mode for Grammarly's GUI.

The main advantages of using this extension are as follows: it reduces the potential eye strain, it eliminates your exposure to the blue light (which inhibits the secretion of melatonin and influences the circadian rhythms), and it arguably makes Grammarly look a lot cooler.

In terms of functionality, there’s not much to be said about the extension. You just have to install it on your Chrome browser from the Chrome Web Store, log into your Grammarly account using the web app, and refresh the website for the extension to activate.

Once active, its effects will remain for the entire duration of your work, provided you don’t close all the Grammarly tabs. Of course, even though the idea behind the extension is a good one, the tool is not perfect. For instance, a page refresh is needed each time you want to reactivate the dark mode.

The extension makes Grammarly’s tooltips look a bit weird. It’s definitely not a deal-breaker, but the text on various tooltips comes across as being a bit pixelated (with a weird text shadow effect on top of that).

Taking everything into account, Grammarly Dark for Chrome is a nice extension that despite its simplicity and few drawbacks, has the potential to bring a lot of value for users who engage in a lot of online writing and are active users of Grammarly.
