HTML5 Video Speed Control

Ever wanted to speed up or slow down an HTML5 video you're watching online? It's now possible to increase or decrease the speed rate of almost any HTML5 video, on most video sharing platforms, with the help of a tiny and ingenious Chrome extension dubbed HTML5 Video Speed Control.

It can be installed just like most other extensions, with a single mouse click from its official Chrome Web Store page. Even though at first glance, it makes its presence known via a small icon on the right side of Chrome's address bar, it's only when you actually load an HTML5 video that you will be able to see the controls.

As expected, by default, the speed of the video is set at "1.00". As you are bound to discover quite quickly, it's not exactly a complex extension, since you can only use the plus and minus buttons o increase or decrease the speed at which the video is being played.

In theory, you can increase or decrease the rate of your videos by any margin, but that does not come without various so-called limitations. You will notice that the voices or sounds are distorted only up to a certain threshold, above and beyond of which your video will be muted.

For example, our tests on YouTube have revealed that the upper limit is 4.00, and the lower one is -0.60, but the best way to know this for sure is to actually test it for yourself.

Without a shadow of a doubt, HTML5 Video Speed Control is a very useful Chrome extension since most HTML5 players don't offer the user many options for increasing or decreasing the video speed.

If we were to nitpick, we would definitely point out that you can only sequentially change the presentation speed. A feature that would allow you to pinpoint the rate value would have been very helpful, indeed. While we're on the subject, keyboard controls would also be a neat addition.
