Expanding one’s vocabulary is without a doubt a very important factor in today’s world. Just like often people judge others by their exterior appearances, in the same way, we tend to judge people by how they speak and express themselves.

There are numerous easy ways to improve your vocabulary starting with simple actions such as reading, using a journal, engaging in conversations, watching movies and TV series, and the list goes on and on. However, one proven way to improve your vocabulary is to dedicate a small amount of time in order to learn a new word each day.

Considering how often we surf the Internet via web browsers, why not combine these two actions for a kick of productivity? Meet Logophile, a Google Chrome extension that transforms the new tab into useful flashcards to help you seamlessly learn new words.

The way it works is pretty straightforward as all you need to do is install the extension from the Chrome Web Store and, each time you open a new tab, Logophile randomly selects a new word from a default list and displays it on the screen.

Quite interestingly, you can also add words of your own either from a specific webpage or directly from your Kindle, if you happen to own such a device. Clicking the screen (the new tab area) reveals the definition, and marks the word as “learned.” Logophile also allows you to choose from 20 different color schemes, so you won’t get bored of the extension too quickly, and that’s pretty much it.

Logophile is an interesting little tool that makes opening new tabs feel surprisingly productive by allowing you to learn new words while using the web.
