If you follow a lot of Twitch streamers, it can be quite difficult to keep track of their schedules, and you never want to miss an opportunity to watch them live. Thankfully, there are lots of third-party applications and extensions that can prove helpful.
NowStreaming is one of them, a Chrome extension that lets you see which of your favorite streamers are currently online, while also alerting you if one of them starts streaming while you are browsing.
It is worth noting that a Twitch account is not required to use this extension. You don’t need to provide your Twitch credentials, as it is possible to import all your followed channels by just entering your Twitch username.
If you don’t have a Twitch account, or you only want to follow a few streamers, you can just provide the names of the channels to track them with this extension. No matter which method you choose, your Twitch account will not be modified in any way.
Once you’ve added the channels you are interested in, the extension will display all the ones that are currently online, along with their viewer count and uptime. If you click on the stream name, you will be taken to their Twitch page, and you can also open the video in a separate window.
What’s more, NowStreaming can provide desktop notifications when a streamer goes online, and the total number of active channels is shown in the extension's Chrome toolbar icon.
In the end, NowStreaming is a great extension for users who want a simple way to track which of their favorite streamers are online. It is very easy to configure, as it doesn’t require you to provide your Twitch credentials.
What's new in NowStreaming 3.4:
- Fix/Update the "Import From Twitch" button: Due to Twitch's new API limitations, from now on this function will only be able to read and import your own user's followed channels. It will not be possible to import the list of other user's followed channels. For 99% of users, this will not be a significant change.
- Update Twitch OAuth permissions accordingly
- You will need to disconnect from twitch (in the Options menu) and re-authenticate for these changes to take effect
- Bring back the functionality of following the stream you are watching with the click of a button
