QR Code for Chrome and Edge

QR codes are one of the easiest methods to share information, as they can embed links, texts, numbers, details about events, locations, and so on. But to use them, you need a QR code generator and a QR code reader. How about having them both at hand with QR Code for Chrome and Edge?

This browser extension practically brings to the table a QR code generator and reader embedded into your Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge browser, whichever you choose to use. In other words, you will no longer need to search for an online QR code generator or use a third-party tool, as creating and decrypting QR codes will be available in the browser.

Once installed, it adds a new button to Chrome’s toolbar, which you can pin right next to the address bar to always keep within reach. When visiting any webpage in Chrome or Edge, simply hit the extension’s button to have the visited URL turned into a QR code instantly. With a single click, you can download the created QR code as a PNG image and save it to your computer for further use.

I mentioned before that the addon can create QR codes based on the webpage visited. But you also get to use it to embed other types of information in a QR code. Hit the “Build” button and a QR code generator opens up in a new tab.

You can input either a URL or a text (no longer than 4000 characters, as QR codes support) and further customize the generated graphics. The size of the image and its margins are adjustable via two sliders. Moreover, the error correction capability can be changed. The higher the error correction level, the higher the capability to restore data if the code is damaged or dirty, but the higher the size of the QR code as well.

A QR code reader is also at your disposal. You can use it to scan an online QR code, use the webcam to grab the image or load a QR code image from your computer. The embedded information is shown in a small text box.

Having a QR code reader and generator in the browser can prove quite handy. Not only that you can easily qork with QR codes to share information, but you no longer need to use an online tool or install a third-party application that takes up storage space.
