Screen Virtual Keyboard

Virtual keyboards were initially developed for security purposes, representing a protection layer against keyloggers. Sadly, keyloggers evolved, rendering these virtual keyboards almost useless. However, the VKs have not become obsolete; but they changed their domain, going from security to comfort.

If you spend most of your computer time browsing the internet, a virtual keyboard might come in handy. Screen Virtual Keyboard is a Chrome extension that brings up a floating keyboard each time you open the browser.

With a VK at hand, you just have to find a comfortable position and enjoy the browsing session. The default model might feel a bit large and intrusive, as it takes a lot of windows space, but there is room for customization.

The Options menu lets you adjust the model's size, behavior, and color scheme. There are four size options, three colors, and a handful of behavior-related settings such as being always on top, synch with a physical keyboard, etc.

If English is not your native language, and you are looking to change the keyboard layout to something more familiar, you might be in luck. The extension comes with 21 available layouts for languages like Russian, Latvian, Portuguese, German, Danish, and more.

Changing the keyboard's language is done by moving an item from the Enable Languages panel to Selected Languages and clicking Save. You can then click the icon on the extension bar and swap the languages from there.

Screen Virtual Keyboard can prove a good companion for users who value comfort when browsing the web. It might be seen as a defense against keyloggers as well, but only those lower-tier ones that focus on pressed keys from a physical keyboard. Some keyloggers take snapshots of the clicked areas, an aspect which our VK right here cannot fight against.
