When navigating online or doing research you often stumble upon interesting content that you might want to share with others or keep for future reference. While sending an URL is the first thing you might think of, sharing content visually is another way to go. Screenshot Capture for Chrome is a handy browser extension that you can use to take snapshots of webpages you visit in Google Chrome, saving them locally to your computer.

Installing the extension is easy and, in no time, a new icon is displayed next to the browser toolbar. It is advisable you pin it to have one-click access to your snapshot tool.

In case you are impatient to know how it works, note that everything is as simple as it can be. You just click on the button to have it activated and an area selection tool is shown. The region that you need to capture must be selected in a rectangle and, as soon as you release the mouse cursor, the extension saves the screenshot to the default downloads folder of Chrome.

That being said, let us take a look at the settings behind the Chrome extension. It is noticeable that there are three different capture methods. The capture viewport method allows you to capture the visible part of the screen, while the other two methods allow you to select the area to include in the snapshot.

The “Crop and Save” method allows you to select the area to grab and save the resulting screenshot afterwards. On the other hand, the “Crop and Wait” method allows you to select the area just like before, but you will have to activate the extension once more to crop and save it. In other words, the first method can automatically save the screenshot, while the second method requires a manual save.

Screenshots can be saved either in PNG or JPG format in a given location. Resulting images can be saved to a file, which is the default option and probably the one preferred by many. On the other hand, you can also send the snapshot to the Windows clipboard, storing either a data URL string or a binary image.

There are also options related to the screenshot size. You can preserve the original DPI size or adjust the screenshot to the actual size.
