Jotting down thoughts, ideas and lists can be difficult when using a web browser, especially if you're in a hurry. It's also a good idea to save everything to file as well as to upload to the cloud, so that you can easily access your work on any device. This particularly comes in handy if your original device was lost, misplaced or stolen.

If you happen to be a Chrome user, then you can take a look at SharePad. It's a simple and straightforward browser extension that gives you the possibility to quickly write notes in a basic notepad. The notes can be saved to an external file in plain text document format (.txt) as well as synced to your Google account. Evidently, this means that you must sign with your Google account in Chrome in order for the synchronization to be successful.

Once integrated with your web browser, you can start writing text as soon as you click the SharePad icon from the upper-right side of the window (next to the Chrome settings menu). It has a spellchecker which highlights grammatically incorrect words, just as if you were using Microsoft Word or other office tool. Exceptions can be added to your dictionary.

Emojis can be added too if you open their menu from the right-click menu. We're not sure if there's a limit to the number of characters that can be written in SharePad. The caret at the position of the last characters is stored by the app.

Meanwhile, the notes are automatically saved to your Google account from time to time, and you can check out the alst save date and time in the status bar of the addon's window. However, you can perform a sync right away with the click of a button. The status bar is also the place where you can find the option to save notes as plain text documents.

There are no current customization preferences integrated with SharePad, but the developer plans to change this in the future. Even so, we find this notepad extension to be practical and intuitive for any Chrome user who wants to quickly write down notes.
