Shazam for Chrome

One of the most popular apps on mobile platforms is Shazam, a music discovery tool that uses audio recognition to identify music playing around the device. While there is no Shazam desktop app, you can use Shazam for Chrome extension to quickly find playing songs in opened browser tabs.

Whether you are watching a video or a live online stream and wonder what song is playing in the background, Shazam for Chrome can do its magic and quickly identifies playing music. Please be advised that Shazam for Chrome only works with audio playing in Google Chrome’s tabs. It does not access your computer’s microphone to listen to surrounding music, nor it records audio played by other applications.

The Shazam for Chrome extension is easily installed, and, in a few seconds, a new button is added to the browser’s toolbar, right next to the address bar. You can pin the Shazam icon to keep it within reach.

To use it, just navigate to a tab that plays music and hit the button to start listening. Shazam for Chrome features audio recognition and tries to identify the playing song, a process that usually takes no more than a few seconds.

Both the names of the song and the artist are displayed, along with the number of times the song was searched for using Shazam. You can easily navigate to Apple Music to play the full song if you want to.

Shazam’s history can be accessed from the same popup window. You can see the list of songs you identified with Shazam for Chrome since the extension was installed in the browser and delete the ones you don’t need anymore.
