This Chrome extension makes sure you are aware of the positive and negative aspects of a website’s ToS by highlighting and simplifying terms #Website rating #Check website tos #ToS verification #ToS #Information #Website
Let's be honest - 99.99% of the users accepting a ToS form, no matter the service, have no idea what they have just agreed on. Most Terms of Service prompts are spread over tens or even hundreds of pages. This allows the so-called services to slip a lot of terms in that would otherwise be clearly denied by most users. Also, the corporate talk is not helping with getting to the core of the issue, giving the impression that all those points are harmless or not important.
Terms of Service; Didn’t Read for Chrome could represent adding a layer of transparency to ToS belonging to well-known websites such as Facebook, Amazon, Wikipedia, Reddit, etc.
A, B, C, D, and E are the grades offered to websites after their ToS were reviewed by the team behind this extension. If you install the extension and access a site, the grade should be the first to come out, taking the place of the add-on icon, on the extension bar. A and B-graded sites fall into the positive side of things, as their ToS is both intelligible and tends to benefit the user.
From C to E is where the problems start. Sites marked with these grades are usually color-coded in red or orange. Their ToS hide information behind lingo or simply under mountains of useless details. Staying away or refusing to agree to such terms would be a wise decision.
To simplify ToS conditions, the extension reconstructs a sentence with simpler words. For example, the "We don't collect or share personal information..." is reduced to a mere "This service does not track you." This makes for an easier review of terms when you are unsure about what you agree upon.
Terms of Service; Didn’t Read for Chrome doesn't seem to do much at a first sight. This impression changes after you start to use it and compare websites' ToS based on their rating. Add the ability to translate corporate gibberish into normal language, and you'll start to have an idea about what you agree upon when creating an account or doing a transaction.
