Drag links or images to open them in a foreground or background tab, or drag text to initiate a search, with this handy Firefox extension #Drag URL #Drag Link #Open URL #Drag #Firefox #Extension
If your work involves handling a lot of URLs or performing searches using text found on the page, selecting these items and bringing up a new tab manually can end up taking a lot of time over the course of a day.
Fire Drag for Firefox offers a more convenient method of doing things – it enables you to open any URL or image by just selecting them and dragging them across the page, as well perform searches using any text you have selected. It can save you a lot of effort and it is very easy to configure.
Say you’ve come across a link that is not clickable, and you want to open it in a new tab. Normally, you would have to select it, right-click it and select the right option from the context menu. While this may not seem like a lot of work, it can get quite tedious if it needs to be done frequently.
With Fire Drag, you can just select the link, drag it a short distance across the page and drop it. It will be opened in either a foreground or background tab, saving you time in the process.
Of course, this extension is also helpful if you wish to have more control over how clickable links and images are opened. When you drag them, you can be certain they will be opened either in a foreground or background tab, depending on your settings.
Fire Drag also makes it easier to send a text string to your preferred search engine and view the results in a new tab. The process is identical – just select the text and drag it slightly to the side.
If the selected text is part of a hyperlink, the extension can also ignore it and open the URL directly; this function can be enabled or disabled from the settings.
When something is opened in a new tab, the extension can either leave it in the background or switch to the new tab immediately. What’s more, you can also specify whether it should be opened to the right or left of the current tab.
Lastly, you can set a minimum dragging distance to avoid opening links by accident. If the selected object is moved less than the set amount, the action will be ignored.
On the whole, Fire Drag is a well-designed, open-source Firefox extension that makes it possible to open links and images, as well as perform searches, by simply dragging and dropping objects. It is easy to set up, and it offers quite a few customization options.
