Livemarks for Firefox

Even though there are a lot of competent RSS feed readers out there, either in the form of extensions or as standalone desktop apps, Firefox users of old still remember the Livemarks feature.

Live bookmarks (also known as dynamic bookmarks) alongside the built-in RSS/Atom reader made Firefox one of the best browsers for tackling RSS feeds. Sadly, both these features have been removed starting with Firefox version 64.

Thankfully, all is not lost, as you can still get back most of these functionalities thanks to a small but handy extension called Livemarks for Firefox. In short, Livemarks aims to fill in the gap left by the removal of the live bookmarks feature.

It provides RSS feed bookmark folders, that are also auto-updated regularly.

As expected for an extension that aims to replace the olf Live bookmarks feature, its feature set is not that extensive.

Some of the most notable features include an auto-updating RSS bookmark folder, support for reading/unreading bookmarks, automatic RSS/Atom feed detection on web pages, the ability to import and export feeds as OPML files, as well as full feed preview.

The feed preview allows you to see exactly what feed entries will be eventually added to the bookmark folder if you choose to add the new livemark.

Before we conclude, please note that the extension might not work on all websites out there. For example, because Firefox's tracking protection, some feeds may end up blocked by default (one good example is Reddit, sadly).

Livemarks for Firefox is a good extension that should make long-term Firefox users happy since it provides them with one of the most well-regarded features: the old "Firefox RSS" also known as dynamic bookmarks.
