Momentum for Firefox

Hitting the CTRL-T key combination opens a new tab page in Mozilla Firefox, a simple page that bundles a Google search form and a few shortcuts to links you frequently access. Momentum for Firefox is an interesting extension that can completely transform the new tab page, turning it into a productivity-oriented personal dashboard.

Once installed in Firefox, Momentum applies its transformations instantly. The new tab page gets a whole new look, inviting you to find focus and inspiration and avoid getting distracted. To get familiar with the new dashboard, you are invited to a welcome tour that presents you with all the sections in the new tabs page, but you can skip it and explore everything yourself.

Aside from the obvious change of the background nature image, you will surely notice that the new tab page is split into four different sections. The Focus area includes a customizable to-do list, along with a blog reading area. Momentum for Firefox gets you inspired with a daily photo, a motivational quote and a daily mantra, while the list of links allows one-click access to favorite pages.

The current time is visible in the center of the window, while the weather conditions for your current location, including the wind speed, are shown in the upper right corner of the window. Right along them, you other “gadgets”, such as a countdown timer to upcoming deadlines or events, or a personal metrics counter that includes important habits, such as fitness and health goals. A world clock is also available, which comes in handy if you work in an international team. Some of these gadgets are only available in the purchased Plus edition.

Momentum for Firefox turns the plain simple new tab page into a productive workspace that can successfully replace several other third-party applications. You can use it as a to-do list creator, a bookmark and quick links tool, a clock and a weather utility, a countdown timer, and more.
