No Coronavirus for Firefox

The Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak is definitely taking center stage in terms of coverage and headlines these days (March 2020). Of course, keeping one’s self informed is nothing short of vital, however, things can become a bit overwhelming.

It seems that everywhere you look on the Internet, everything is about the Coronavirus outbreak. If you’re a bit bothered about this fact, and you happen to use Firefox, then you might want to check out a neat extension called No Coronavirus.

In short, once installed on your Firefox browser, this extension automatically somewhat hides all mentions of Coronavirus. To be more precise, it blocks the actual “Coronavirus” word by replacing it with pixelated, ASCII-like text blocks.

The extension itself is extremely minimalist and unobtrusive and you probably won’t even notice when its installation finishes since it does not have an icon. The extension just works in the background and replaces the said word with the aforementioned text blocks.

That said, if you want to enable or disable, you’ll have to go into Firefox’s menu, select the Add-ons menu (or simply press CTRL+SHIFT+A), and use its dedicated toggle to turn it on or off. This is also the case if you want to remove it completely. Just click the “three-dot” menu next to the extension and select “Remove.”

Taking everything into account, No Coronavirus for Firefox is not exactly what one might call a comprehensive extension. Hence, it may not work for everyone, as it’s also not the most elegant solution towards achieving this particular goal. However, it’s easy to install, it’s quite unobtrusive and lightweight, and it does work as intended. To conclude, it’s probably the most straightforward solution for most people who want to block off the Coronavirus word.
