TabWalk for Firefox

By default, navigating between tabs in Firefox can be done using the CTRL-Tab key combination, which jumps between all the opened tabs in the order they are currently arranged. However, this might not be the most convenient way to jump between webpages. With the help of the TabWalk addon, Firefox can focus recently accessed tabs in the order they were opened.

Switching to the recently active tabs can be easily done using keyboard shortcuts once you install TabWalk for Firefox. The goal is to enhance your productivity and improve your workflow by using this new tab navigation method alongside the other alternatives that Firefox has to offer, namely CTRL+digit to switch to one of the first eight tabs, and the aforementioned CTRL-Tab.

TabWalk for Firefox implements a method to quickly switch between tabs that were recently active, which can lower the number of miss clicks and improve your overall work performance.

Once installed, TabWalk for Firefox adds two new keyboard shortcuts that can be used for tab navigation. Pressing ALT-Shift-Left Arrow puts the previous active tab in focus, while the same combination with the right arrow sends you forward, to the next active tab.

Keep in mind that the tabs that were not recently active are automatically ignored, along with the tabs that were opened before the extension was installed. For instance, if you open 15 tabs in Firefox but use only three in the current browsing session, you can jump between those three tabs using TabWalk. The extension also works if multiple browser windows are opened.

Although very simple, TabWalk for Firefox can be of use to those who use Firefox on a daily basis. As a suggestion, it would be better to be able to customize the key combination and set the number of active tabs to switch between.
