A handy extension that makes it possible for you to access cached versions of websites on popular search engines, including Google or Archive.org #View Archived Website #Website Archive #Website Cache #Archive #Cache #Wayback
Web Archives for Firefox is a browser extension that makes it possible for you to access archived and cached versions of a website with just a few clicks. It works with some of the most popular search engines, enabling you to access the latest available saved version of the page you are visiting or the link you specify.
Installing Web Archives is easy, as Firefox automatically detects the XPI file and adds it to its list of extensions. You will notice that a new icon is available in the browser toolbar, which enables you to initiate a new search for the URL loaded in the active tab.
Clicking on the Web Archives icon opens a new prompt window where you can see a list of all the available search engines and choose which one to use.
Web Archives for Firefox comes with support for the following engines: Wayback Machine, Google, Bing, Yandex, Archive.is and Sogou. Clicking on any of the engines initiates a new search in a separate browser tab. Alternatively, you can choose to start searching on all the engines at once. Doing so results in the opening of several new browser tabs, one for each engine.
By default, Web Archives for Firefox collects the URL in the active browser tab and sends it to the selected third-party service to perform the search. Alternatively, you can manually type in an URL in the dedicated field and begin searching for it with Web Archives for Firefox.
You must allow Web Archives for Firefox to access all your opened tabs and other data in order to use it. However, by default, the extension does not have permission to run in Private windows. You can easily change this setting in the extension’s options.
Looking for an older cached version of a page or URL might be useful if the page you are currently trying to access fails to load or a download link is no longer available. Having that in mind, an extension such as Web Archives for Firefox can really come in handy. And, if your browser of choice is Chrome, then you can try Web Archives for Chrome.
