Although I have several playlists for various activities I’m regularly doing, sometimes, I feel rather bored with them. This is when I check out the various radio stations to discover new artists or tracks.

SomaFM is a Microsoft Store App that can be your gateway to a world of eclectic and commercial-free music.

The app comes with a user-friendly interface that includes several filtering options in the top menu. You can sort by popularity, genres, alphabetically or favorite, the latter including stations you visit and enjoy regularly.

Unlike traditional radio stations that often play the same popular tracks on repeat and interrupt the music with commercials, so you can enjoy uninterrupted music streaming without any annoying ads or breaks. On the other hand, I noticed that you have around 30 stations in total.

While mainstream radio stations tend to stick to popular genres and chart-topping hits, the app offers a wide range of underground and alternative music, including ambient, downtempo, electronica, indie pop, roots, jazz, and experimental genres.

I noticed that you can give some limited feedback to the tracks you are listening in. When accessing a station, you can view the song and artist currently playing, and you can let the DJ know you love the song or feel that maybe it’s inappropriate.
