Alt.Binz Portable is a lightweight software application whose purpose is to help you manage and download articles from various Usenet search engines.
This is the portable version of Alt.Binz, which makes it the perfect candidate for being stored on portable devices so you can carry it with you all the time.
The utility provides a clean feature lineup. However, it comes packed with many configuration settings so you need to dedicate some of your time getting used to working with it.
There’s support for an online help manual that can be accessed in case you need further assistance with the configuration settings.
The tool keeps track of all your active downloads in a queue list and provides details about the subject, size, parts, age, group, poster, and status.
What’s more, you can set the default download folder, create subdirectories based on group name, skip files if they are already downloaded, and pause the downloading process while repairing and decompressing archives.
You can pause the downloading task if the free space on the disk gets below a custom value, keep download history for a user-defined number of days, and specify the maximum memory cache size.
Alt.Binz Portable lets you set up server connections, enable logging, configure the maximum download speed, connection timeout and number of retries, and schedule the downloading process to take place on specific days of the weeks and at custom hours.
You are allowed to delete files after decompressing archives (e.g. MD5, SFV), repair and unrar PAR2 files, view the latest news using the built-in RSS reader, and play user-defined sound notifications on finished downloads.
Last but not least, the app gives you the freedom to pause the downloading process for a certain time, open the folder where the downloads are stored, insert user-defined notes in a simplistic panel, and enable a shutdown, hibernate or sleep session at the end of the downloading job.
All things considered, Alt.Binz Portable packs a thorough set of features for helping you grab Usenet articles, and is suitable for rookies and professionals alike.
Note: The latest version of the program is only available to contributors.
