Stay up to date with the latest news from the most popular sources out there with the help of this visually-pleasing and simple Electron-based app. #View News #News Reader #Read News #News #Reader #Headline
With its self-explanatory name, Headlines is a handy, Electron-based application that provides you with the latest news from a broad array of categories, topics, and sources.
First off, you should know that this application uses the newsapi.org API. If you haven't heard of it, News API provides live headlines from over 70 of the most popular sources to date.
For instance, BBC News, Ars Technica, CNBC, CNN, BuzzFeed, Daily Mail, Engadget, Hacker News, ESPN, Google News, IGN, Independent, Mashable, Reddit, Reuters, TechCrunch, TechRadar, The Verge, Time, and Wired, are just a small part of the provided sources.
The application can be deployed with the least amount of hassle on your part, since it comes with an automatic installer that, once launched, takes care of the whole process on its own. The first thing that becomes apparent is the app's sleek and minimalistic interface that looks like it came straight from macOS (or OS X).
The news is displayed within scrollable feeds and is neatly organized in a couple of categories, easily accessible via designated buttons located on the upper part of the main window. Unfortunately, the categories are not named but, judging by their symbols they might be as follows: Business, Tech, Gaming, International, Music, Science, and Sports.
Before we conclude, there's one more thing you should know. Since Headlines does not come with a built-in browser, any selected piece of news will be automatically opened using your computer's default web browser.
Taking everything into account, Headlines is a very efficient, stylish and practical app that brings you the latest news from the best news sources out there. Even though it is not exactly customizable (as it's fully depended on the news sources provided by the aforementioned News API and, hence, it does not allow you to add or remove sources), it might be fitting for users that just want a straightforward and non-customizable news reader.
