IdentProtocol

IdentProtocol is an application that runs as a Windows service and listens to ident requests in order to respond with the right info. It comes with a standard installer, but it lacks a GUI, running only in the background, and it can be configured by editing an INI file.

When an ident request is received, the service responds with the current user account and, optionally, the computer name. If more than one instance of the service is running at the same time, IdentProtocol works in conjunction with itself and requests are relayed correctly.

It is possible to configure the service to act independently or not work at all unless a certain program specified by the user is running.

Once you have installed the software, you will find a couple of EXE files and an INI configuration file in the root folder. These can be used to run the service, change the settings and reload it if any modifications have been made.

The INI configuration file contains a number of entries that can be altered to change the behavior of the program. For instance, you can define how quickly connections will be released, specify what info should be included in responses and add the name of a process that should be monitored.
