MetroTwit presents a fun and exciting way to keep track of Twitter activity right on the desktop.

It is wrapped up in an attractive and highly intuitive interface that offers quick access to the timeline, mentions, messages, notifications, and other areas.

The setup procedure is familiar and quick, with no special attention being required. As the name implies, the UI is Metro-based, so it should please all Windows 8 and 8.1 users.

Evidently, it is necessary to set up your Twitter account to get started; extra accounts can be added later on.

Once logged on, you can view two side-by-side panes which show your friends and mentions, respectively. Other ones with direct messages, favorites and personal tweets can be added to new columns.

Tweets can be immediately written and published from the bottom part of the frame, completed with attached pictures (GIF, JPG, JPEG, PNG). It is possible to search for content or users across the whole Twitter, create and view lists, refresh content, as well as check out trends.

As far as interface customization is concerned, the theme can be switched from light to dark mode, and its accent from Aero glass to a handpicked color. The sidebar background can be filled with a theme of its own (e.g. dots, lines) and shown minimized, while the app is able to keep the scroll position on top when new tweets come in. Notifications may be enabled or hidden (visual and sound).

MetroTwit generally uses low CPU and RAM. It has a great refresh rate and ran smoothly throughout our evaluation, without causing Windows to hang, crash or pop up error dialogs. Geared toward all Twitter users, MetroTwit makes for an excellent desktop client, mostly thanks to its attractive Metro look.
