Block websites with inappropriate content on systems with Windows versions prior to XP thanks to this lightweight parental control application #Site Blocker #Website Blocker #Block Website #Blocker #Restrict #Restriction
Using the same computer as your children might need setting some Internet access restrictions and, if you are not a great fan of parental control software, then some other solution, such as JasTek.net's SiteBlocker, might do the trick.
JasTek.net's SiteBlocker is a handy utility that can block the access to specific websites permanently. Unfortunately, the application has not been updated in a long time, so it is not compatible with more recent Windows iterations. It has only been tested with Windows versions up to XP.
Inside the archive of JasTek.net's SiteBlocker you will find a VBE file, which must be copied to a specific path, depending on the operating system version you are using, as follows: · XP: C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\ETC · Windows 2000: C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\ETC · Windows 98/ME: C:\Windows A shortcut to the SiteBlocker should be made on the desktop, for easier access.
Double-clicking on the created shortcut runs the script, which prompts you to enter the address of the website you want to block, starting with "www". A reboot might be required for the changes to take effect.
To restore access to the blocked website, you must edit the HOSTS file on your system by deleting the corresponding line.
