The installation operation is swift and uncomplicated. Web Data Extractor is wrapped in a classical-looking interface made from a large window divided into several panes, which enables you to start a new session by filling out a lot of details.

You can indicate the starting URL, spider level in retrieval depth and number of exact pages to process, extract metadata and URLs as base URL, full URL or full HTML/non-HTML URL, create a list with URLs and select the preferred search engines to take into account, as well as establish the output CSV file for storing data in.

Instead of using the search engines mode, you can follow offsite links. It's also possible to define a whitelist or blacklist with keywords for URLs, select the date range and valid domains, apply text filters to pages for data extraction, configure phone and fax parser options, edit connection properties, and so on.

Meta tags, emails, phones, faxes, merged lists, URLs and inactive sites can be inspected in the main application window. What's more, you can select the number of jobs to run simultaneously, edit session properties anytime, save the session to file and resume it later, or check out the root data folder.

No error dialogs popped up in our tests, and the program didn't hang or crash. It used a decent amount of CPU and RAM, so it didn't hamper the system's performance. Too bad that it hasn't been recently updated. Otherwise, Web Data Extractor comes equipped with many advanced and useful options to help you analyze websites in detail and extract various components.
