AdFirewall

AdFirewall is a small software application whose purpose is to offer real-time protection against malware and other types of threats that may hijack your browser homepage and search results, Windows startup settings, login sessions and registry. It is able to detect hidden rootkits and delete them.

The tool adopts a multi-tabbed layout that allows you to easily switch between several key configuration parameters, namely protection options, scan mode and removing functions, and malware removal service.

AdFirewall gives you the possibility to choose between three work modes, namely ‘go through’ (suspicious operations are allowed), ‘block’ (malicious actions are restricted upon detection) and ‘prompt’ (you are asked to block or allow a suspicious operation).

The tool reveals a log in the main panel which records information about all blocked or allowed actions, errors and other types of events. You may clear the log with just one click and save the log data to plain text file format.

The application reveals statistics with the number of detected, blocked and allowed malicious operations, and lets you display popups upon identifying a malicious attempt, play sound notifications upon detecting a suspicious task, as well as run the utility at Windows startup.

You can select between a fast or full scan mode in order to look for malware objects and remove them. The fast one can be used in case you don’t want to spend too much time, as it looks only for active malware objects and deletes them.

The full scan mode takes longer than the first one because it scans the whole registry and hard drive. At the end of the process, the tool shows the total number of scanned items and suspicious files, along with information about the malware name, type, path and action. You may fix the selected issues and save the scan results to plain text file format.

The malware removal service can be used for getting rid of any malware that infected the computer before installing AdFirewall. You can perform a diagnostic scan, send the log file to the technical support, get a removal script, and drag-and-drop the script into the main window of the utility.
