SupportHopper

Remote utilities can help users provide and receive support in a very convenient manner, so seeing them being widely used is no surprise. If you're not a fan of the current mainstream offerings, then looking for alternatives should still get you a good tool to work with.

SupportHopper is a remote utility whose aim is to make screen sharing easier for everyone. Connecting to a remote computer is very simple, so users should be able to start providing or receiving support for their issue in no time at all. The competition is fierce, however, so users will have to decide for themselves if this solution is better than the others.

Connecting to a remote computer shouldn't take long at all. The host computer will have to provide you with a nine-digit code to connect to it, and you can take it from there. A remote connection will then be established, and you'll be given control of the host computer.

The remote connection screen is pretty barren in terms of functions, however. There are no ways to annotate what you're doing, and chatting with the host doesn't currently seem to be possible either.

There are no controls to limit the control of the guest like on other tools. What you see on the remote control screen is what you get, essentially: control of the remote computer, as well as some controls to resize the remote window. Interestingly enough, you can restart the host computer and have the connection still functional after it restarts. All that's required to copy and paste files between computers is a simple CTRL+C and CTRL+V operation, which is nice.

There's a User menu within the program's interface, but we couldn't really use it. Authenticating with our credentials would simply show a blank white screen. Though we couldn't log in, the program would deny any subsequent authentication attempts due to "exceeding the purchased license limit for the number of logins for the same name."

Overall, SupportHopper should work as a remote utility, but the program can feel a little unstable and buggy at times, which may be enough to get users to switch to a different tool.
