Finding a specific file on your computer may seem like an easy task, but if you don’t know the full name, path, or any other related details it immediately turns into a problem. Windows comes with a default search engine to locate files on your computer, but there are various third-party applications like PC Fsearcher that aim to do a better job at locating files of interest.

A neat advantage is that the application can be directly launched right after the download process is finished, since it requires no installation to make its set of features work. It can be used from a USB flash drive on other computers as well. Just make sure .NET Framework is installed on the target PC, and that you run the program with administrator privileges.

The visual design is pretty neat, with a custom-made layout that poses no accommodation problems whatsoever. Most of the space is used to enlist detected files along with details like name, path, extension, attribute, size, and last modified date. Functions and trigger options are all neatly kept in the upper toolbar.

PC Fsearcher requires you to write down the file name you want to look for, or at least part of it. Multiple entries can be looked up at the same time. The location also needs to be selected, but the default one is the whole computer anyway. Date and size filters can be set in order to narrow down results.

It can take some time to find files of interest, but this mostly depends on the disk size. The list of results is updated in real time. Various operations can be performed when scanning is done, such as the possibility to open, copy, move, or delete. Moreover, the application can hide your selection of files, open the source directory, and have them renamed.

Taking everything into consideration, we can say that PC Fsearcher is a neat alternative to the default Windows search engine. Although it doesn’t differ that much in methods and results, it can be used to also perform different operations like hiding or batch renaming. The only downside is you need to launch the main window whenever you need to look for files.
