Azure VM Remover

While deleting a virtual machine in Azure may seem like a simple and straightforward process, you may often discover that things are more complicated than they seem. One common situation is that after you found the VHDs, press the Delete button and confirm, Azure gets stuck or notifies you that it cannot erase as it is in use as a virtual machine disk.

As the name suggests, Azure VM Remover is a dedicated application that provides a quick and effortless way to delete virtual machines along with all their components.

While the installation is a quick and uneventful process, you are going to need to activate the license in order to use the application. In this sense, you should click the dedicated link in the splash screen and the app should open your email client where you can ask for the key. It may be a good idea to be logged in one of your email clients, preferably one that opens in the browser.

The program comes with a clean and user-friendly interface which is slightly more detailed than the console of Azure. After you login, you should be able to view a list of the virtual machines available and all you need to do is select the one that you want to delete. Along with the VMs, the app also includes the components which can be anything from data disks, boot diagnostics, IP interface or network security groups. Afterward, simply wait for the app to clean the VM, process that is complete when you get the notification.

In the eventuality that you are need to clean-up Azure and rebuilt a new virtual machine from this disk or perhaps you decided to just delete the VM and keep the disk, then perhaps Azure VM Remover might be worth a try. Not only can you cut down on expenses with the cloud service, but you can also be sure to have a clean disk ready whenever you decide to rebuild the virtual machine later on.
