LiteDB Viewer

LiteDB is popular among developers who need a lightweight NoSQL database, but no official GUI application is available for managing database files.

LiteDB Viewer is a small utility designed to provide you with an alternative to LiteDB Shell, the command-line program used by most to explore, edit and test databases. It is fairly basic, but it can still prove to be very useful.

The application certainly isn’t difficult to use, as you simply need to launch it and navigate to the database file you wish to analyze. However, you need to launch it again if you want to open a different file.

During installation, the application is associated with .DB files automatically, and a new context menu item is added as well. Unfortunately, though, you cannot disable it without uninstalling the program.

All collections available in the database will be listed in the main window, and you can click on individual ones to view all the documents they contain. It is even possible to enter custom queries in order to refine your searches.

Moreover, you can double-click certain objects to view them in more detail, and the application can also display them as strings, XML, JSON, HTML and Base64. Lastly, the String Viewer enables you to export data to TXT.

It has to be said that LiteDB Viewer isn’t the most impressive program from a visual standpoint, but the interface layout is straightforward enough. If you only wish to view the contents of LiteDB databases, this utility is a great alternative to LiteDB Shell.

It is worth remembering that this application does not offer any editing features, so you cannot modify database files in any way. On the whole, however, LiteDB Viewer is a small, open-source utility that can certainly come in handy.
