Quick Reporting Tool is an SQL query builder that aims to be as intuitive as possible, allowing database administrators to create queries and end users to execute them with ease. The Developer Module of Quick Reporting Tool can help its users set up a new database connection and build SQL queries that can be then executed using the End User Module.
Each time Quick Reporting Tool - Developer Module is launched, it prompts the user to select the desired database connection. A new one can be configured in two different ways: either by creating a UDL file and configure it in the Data Link Properties window using am ODBC or OLE DB Provider, or by inputting a connection string into a text file.
Quick Reporting Tool displays all the database tables and their fields in a user-friendly interface, which also comprises an area dedicated to writing the SQL query. Aside from the 'SELECT' statement, one can use other SQL statement in a query, such as 'INSERT', 'DELETE', 'ALTER', 'UPDATE', 'TRUNCATE', and so on.
There are 25 parameter types that can be used in SQL queries created with Quick Reporting Tool. The documentation describes them all in detail, providing usage examples to help out users get acquainted with the application. These commands can be used to schedule new queries in the Windows Task Scheduler.
Resulting SQL queries can be executed within the Developer Module of Quick Reporting Tool to see the output, but there is an option to execute them to a delimited text or Excel file that can be then shared with others.
Together with the End User Module, Quick Reporting Tool - Developer Module is a powerful SQL query creation and execution tool. It can connect to any database via an ODBC or OLE DB provider and retrieve database entries that match the criteria in the SQL query.
Results are displayed in an organized manner, inside a table, and users can export the data to a file for later reference and sharing with end users. A big plus is that the query file is automatically encrypted, so as to prevent unauthorized modifications.
