RetrospectClientNotifier

Retrospect is a set of software solutions that provide backup actions for small and medium market enterprises. When the service starts a backup, the user is announced by way of dialog boxes, or notifications. That was the case, however, until Windows 8 launched, and the Retrospect alerts reportedly stopped appearing.

There is a workaround for this issue, however, represented by RetrospectClientNotifier — a tiny program that brings back the Retrospect alerts, in the form of toast notifications.

Simply installing the app should take care of the missing alerts. No configuration or setup is required here. The only condition the developer wants the user to follow is to install the app from Restrospect's client or server directory.

As for how things should go, that is easy. Each time Retrospect triggers a backup session, a small notification will pop up from the system tray area. One more alert should be pushed upon completing the action, also displaying the total size of the saved files. In case of missed notifications, these can be accessed from the system's notification manager.

Overall, RetrospectClientNotifier is a handy app for businesses using Retrospect for automated backups. Restoring alerts for starting or completing tasks is all the app does, since this function was supressed starting with Windows 8.
