In the context of the emergence of microblogging and self-hosted social networking services, the rise of dedicated platforms, such as Mastodont, came as a natural development. The increased efficiency, which was mainly derived from the flexibility offered by the so-called instances (Mastodont nodes), means that users could easily interoperate and interact using the said nodes as common points for establishing contact with others.

Designed specifically as a desktop client for Mastodont, TheDesk will offer users a dedicated tool to migrate all their online platform tasks to a desktop environment. Some of the highlights of the client will enable users to work with certain elements in a way that is not possible when relying solely on the platform.

For instance, in order to better organize the content of the different feeds, one can use the included flexible columns, which will not account for the differences between the accounts. Each will support streaming and is equipped with different header colors, for better identification.

Last but not least, the dedicated preferences module for defining the behavior of the application has over 40 separate configurable items, which, if required, can be exported in order to transfer the configuration data from one PC to another.
