Designed to provide users with an easier way to access YouTube from their desktop, this solution grants you everything you like about the platform, right from the comfort of your desktop #YouTube Electron #YouTube Desktop #Video Streaming #YouTube #Electron #Video
YouTube is nice, no matter where you watch it: on your phone, TV, or desktop. The content itself stays the same — it's just the format that's different. While the default way to watch YouTube on a computer relies on using your browser and accessing its website is fine, what if you had a dedicated app to access the platform? That could be convenient.
That is essentially what YouTube Electron seeks to do. Convenience is important, especially when it relates to something you do often. Offering users an app to access YouTube from their desktop is the goal here, and your content is now only a few clicks away. At least in theory, that does sound like something nice to have.
There aren't any sweeping changes or anything of the sort to expect. The experience is pretty much the same as the one on your browser, and considering the Electron core, paired with the nativefier build, that does make sense. Simply put, it seems as though the developer has turned the YouTube domain into a desktop application.
Logging into your account is possible, and your credentials are saved, which means that you'll only have to input them once. You'll be able to consume your favorite content as usual, stay up to date with what your preferred content creators are doing, as well as interact with the YouTube community in the comments. There seems to be no lock on image quality, so you'll be able to stream your favorite content at the highest available resolution.
The developer states that the program comes with an ad removal function, but our testing revealed no such feature. If there is a built-in ad-blocker out there, then it's not very efficient. Some users might be put off by this, which is why so many rely on using an ad-blocker on their browser, after all.
YouTube Electron can be a convenient app to have. While it works decently, the lack of a functioning ad-blocker is a bummer to many users, especially given how trigger-happy YouTube is with ads.
What's new in YouTube Electron 1.1:
- Thought I wouldn't update this ever but found ways to inject userscripts. Added automatic adblocking that may require the app to be restarted
