LightPad

LightPad is an intuitive text editor for web designers and casual users who want to explore the source code of webpages. It supports syntax highlighting for HTML, CSS, JavaScript, VB Script, PHP, Perl, Java and SQL. You can also open plain text documents.

After a speedy setup operation that shouldn't impose any difficulties, you are greeted by a normal window with a familiar structure, where you can get started by opening a file from the local disk, or a web page that will be saved offline as HTML.

You can view the source code, cycle through the editor viewing mode (in accordance to the code type), preview the page design, cut, copy, paste, delete and select all text, undo and redo your actions, use a search-and-replace function (e.g. case sensitive, whole words only), as well as enable word wrapping mode.

It's also possible to remove extra spaces and HTML tags, convert text or HTML to uppercase or lowercase, capitalize words, view a list with predefined tags and attributes that you can quickly insert into the code, show gutter, line numbers and special characters, change the UI language, or convert the charset.

LightPad lets you write your name, email address and homepage, make it the default HTML source viewer, allow multiple instantly, hide warnings on HTML validation, customize the font style and size, disable syntax highlights, convert tabs to spaces, wrap long lines at margin, use XHTML syntax, add web browsers to use within the application, as well as put together custom commands.

No error dialogs popped up in our tests, and the utility didn't hang or crash. It left a small footprint on system resources, using low CPU and RAM. To sum it up, LightPad provides users with an approachable source code viewer for various languages. Too bad that it hasn't been updated for a while.
