Web pages and programs are all made functional and interactive by tons of lines of code. Developers have quite the variety of programming languages at their disposal, and code can be written even in simple text editors. However, applications like SoloWiki make it easy to organize the code, this one being dedicated to the Mediawiki markup language.
First of all, the application was built to run on the Java Runtime Environment platform, which means you’re able to use it on different operating systems. What’s more, no setup is required, allowing you to carry it on a thumb drive. As such, registry entries are not modified in the process, so you don’t have to worry about the target PC’s health status.
You start off in the edit section of the whole operation, with a separate tab to view output when done. An upper toolbar is fitted with several operations you can use to insert different functionality changers, such as bold, italic, underline, header, image, making font bigger or smaller, and more.
As mentioned above, the application is specially designed to work with the Mediawiki markup language. This is a simplified version of HTML, with differs in terms of syntax. It reduces the risk of errors, since you don’t have to remember, or use complex expressions and callout functions to make the code work.
Needless to say that some degree of knowledge is required to make things work. At any point during your work, there’s the possibility to generate preview, which is available in the output tab. Moreover, projects can also be saved to file, by having the corresponding HTML code built. Sadly, you can’t import HTML files, but only TXT documents containing such code.
All things considered, we can say that SoloWiki is a lightweight code processor allowing you to develop Mediawiki projects with ease. Although some terms are not that well-defined, the supported markup language is easy enough to learn. A preview can be instantly generated, and the code transformed and saved as HTML.
