Making music on a computer nowadays can have absolutely nothing to do with real instruments. This is because advanced computer programs which simulate the quality and tone of nearly every instrument, and provide enhancement options to spice up songs. In this regard, DrumTrack wants to help create drum patterns in a multi-pattern environment.
Although the visual design doesn’t make the application stand out from the crowd, aesthetics are not the center of attention here. Even so, it’s intuitive enough to take only a little accommodation time, despite there are an abundance of options to go through.
The song you create is made out of multiple measures. Each measure can be fitted with multiple patterns, which is actually the sound you compose using different instruments. If one pattern is not enough to fill in all sounds, there’s the possibility to add more tracks. The track editor benefits from a loop option, with configurable options for number of times to repeat, and more.
Your main resource is represented by patterns. The related editor is incredibly easy to use. In a drawing environment, it’s enough to place the note in an appropriate sequence, with real-time feedback of sound. Playback can be initiated for a pattern alone, or for the entire track.
Patterns are based on instruments, with the application providing an impressive variety of choices. However, there’s a dedicated editor with which to create multiple instrument sets by simply loading an audio file to represent a custom instrument.
Changing values for pattern signature determines its length, as well as the number of available slots for each measure. Individual tempo can be set for each pattern, as well as volume. You can mute, or solo either single instruments, or patterns entirely.
Templates can be saved so you later on use them in different compositions. However, export options extend flexibility, allowing you to save as WAV, or MIDI, with the browser window letting you select the exact composition elements to export.
Taking everything into consideration, we can say that DrumTrack is a powerful audio editor which provides enough resources as is to create cool tracks, while giving you the liberty to create your own sound banks. Editing and management of patterns and tracks is incredibly easy, while export options are sure to make it worth your while.
