Load one or more MP3 files in order to perform basic editing such as cutting, or merging of parts, with support from generated waveform. #Mpg editor #Audio editor #Graphical representation #Edit #Editor #Mpg
Editing audio is not an easy task, especially since sound files can be found under different types of formats, depending on the encoders used in the creation process. However, applications like xmpgedit make the whole experience effortless, letting you work on multiple MP3 files, with different operations at your disposal.
On the one hand, the visual design can feel a little rough, and it can take some time before you figure out how all functions are triggered. A list shows all files you load, which can either be done by dropping them over the main window, or using the dedicated browse dialog.
By default, only the file list, and several cut controls are shown. However, decoding files also creates the waveform, which you can analyze by using the progress slider. There’s the possibility to initiate playback through dedicated controls, which comes in handy for easily configuring start and end times of the new file.
Needless to say that one of the possible operations is to cut the file into a separate, shorter output. Start, and end times can either be set through the progress slider, or writing down values yourself in dedicated fields.
Another operation is joining files together, since you can load more files at a time. However, the ambiguous interface might give you a little hard time here, especially because there’s no general waveform workspace for all files, and the one at your disposal doesn’t benefit from zoom options.
Other files can easily be added at the end of the current selection through the append function. Output is always MP3, and so is input, since it’s the only supported format. You can find out more related details about a file through the statistics panel.
Taking everything into consideration, we can say that xmpgedit comes with good intentions, allowing you to perform basic sound editing operations on multiple files. Unfortunately, the visual design gives you a hard time both accommodating, and while editing.
