MIDI Mutator

Music producers usually rely on complex software tools for editing, mixing and synthesizing, but also end up using third-party apps or VST plugins to get the functionality they need. MIDI Mutator is one example of such a software utility, designed to provide them with a simple means of altering any MIDI sequence as they consider fit.

Available for VST and VST3 on Windows, MIDI Mutator can help users change the scale of the selected piece and alter various other parameters to either transform it completely or slightly modify the rhythm. This way, one can easily create a new and original piece with a vibrant and energetic sound.

As mentioned before, there are various parameters that users can tamper with in MIDI Mutator. First, there is the rhythm, which can be easily regenerated. Notes can be shortened; the number of slices can be changed and note positions or lengths can be randomized with a click.

MIDI Mutator brings to the table six rhythm generator algorithms from its bigger brother app, RapidComposer, plus an additional one that can preserve the lengths of notes and pauses. Alternatively, the rhythm can be imported from another MIDI file.

Chord voicing can be extended, widened or randomized, and chord progression can be replaced. Accents and pitches can be randomized as well, while polyphony can be increased or decreased.

The only way to get to know the capabilities of MIDI Mutator is to experiment with the effects and notes and change music patterns using the available editing tools. It can be used to modify any aspect of a MIDI sequence in terms of rhythm, accents, chords, shape and timing. The resulting sequence can be imported to music production software.
