Noise-o-matic

You gotta have some fun every now and then in voice chat. Meeting with your buddies online on voice is fun in and of itself, but sometimes you feel like spicing things up a little. Perhaps I’m not alone in thinking that voice-altering tools can be quite cool, provided they work nicely and the result is satisfactory.

Noise-o-matic is a piece of software whose aim is to provide a soundboard of sorts, which is meant to cover a lot of your audio recording needs. These uses include altering your voice in more ways than one, editing existing sound files or newly-recorded ones to play in voice chat, and more.

The app features a demo version that is available on Steam, which can give you an idea as to how to operate it. I found its interface to be intuitive enough to make the program easy to pick up by anyone interested.

As for what’s on offer, there’s quite a bit you can play around with. Perhaps the highlight is the Voice Changer feature, which gives you a bunch of options to use to alter your voice: change its pitch, add an echo, maybe sprinkle in some reverb, then use some filters. The point is there’s a lot to experiment with, as these are only a few of the available options.

Staying true to its name, the Soundboard feature indeed functions much like you would expect: add some audio file you want to eventually play, then assign a hotkey to it. Pressing that hotkey will play that audio on demand through your microphone, which can make for some interesting moments, to say the least.

There’s also an audio editor function to help you polish those sounds before playing them. In there, you’ll be able to manage its volume, as well as trim any parts you don’t want to include in the final audio.

Noise-o-matic should be quite fun to use in numerous occasions, but remember, it’s best to use its Soundboard and Voice Changer features sparingly and cleverly to put them to good effect.
