Choosing to enjoy all of your favorite songs offline requires a dedicated application which can read the specific file type you want to load. There’s a plethora of products which managed to make a name for themselves, and this doesn’t mean the rest need to be overlooked. For instance, JTinyMedia is a slim media player you can even use on the go.

On the one hand, the application doesn’t even need to be installed in order to function, and this makes it pretty easy to have it stored on a thumb drive along with some audio files to carry around and listen to on other computers besides your own. On the other hand, the computer you use it on needs to be fitted with Java Runtime Environment to ensure functionality.

As far as the interface goes, there’s not really much to look at, even though it uses a basic set of Java libraries to give it a rather cool look and feel. Aesthetics are not the center of attention here, but it doesn’t mean you have a hard time getting acquainted with all it has to offer.

A large list is used as a temporary playlist for elements you want to listen to. However, these need to be added one by one, or imported via a playlist under the M3U playlist, because the browse dialog can only open one file at a time, and there’s no support for drag and drop here.

The application comes with a built-in playlist editor, which is also fitted with a navigation panel to build the list on the spot. Playback controls only consist of basic elements, with sliders for volume and progress. You can enable shuffle and repeat for a bit more variety.

All things considered, we can state that JTinyMedia isn’t really the choice of professionals when it comes to audio playback. It can only read MP3 files, and as far as the list of features is concerned, these doesn’t really make things easy, or comfortable on the long run.
