LIMP

Various audio players managed to build quite the reputation over the years, but this doesn’t really mean they’re fitted to fulfill your needs. Chances are you just want a simple player to be able to effortlessly play several audio files, and LIMP is a tool which is fitted not too many, but not too little functions.

There’s no setup involved to make the application work, so you can rest assured that it’s ready to go from the moment download is done. It can even be easily carried around on a thumb drive to always have a personal audio player at hand. It doesn’t damage the target PC, because it doesn’t make any changes to system registry entries to function.

The visual design feels a little rough around the edges. Not all buttons are fitted with name tags, while elements used are pretty common. Sure enough you don’t have a hard time accommodating, but it really feels like an unfinished product.

Adding files is only possible through the browse dialog, but you’re free to select multiple items at a time. File support only includes MP3 and FLAC. Items are visible in a large list, and you can even save the entire playlist as a custom name, but there’s no option to load an existing one, which is rather disappointing.

The set of playback controls is rather straightforward. There’s no possibility to shuffle the playlist, and once the last element plays, everything ends. Minimizing it is only possible to taskbar, without icon highlight to bring up playback controls. Hotkey commands are not supported, even if you’re using a multimedia keyboard.

Taking everything into consideration, we can state that LIMP isn’t really the audio player you’re expecting to find. The set of features can leave a bad taste in your mouth, while the visual design looks as if the program is still in early stages of development.
