There are an abundance of methods to gain access and listen to your favorite songs nowadays, but chances are you still prefer to play the collection which already resides on your computer. Needless to say that you need an appropriate program which can read the source audio files, and WindowsPod is a neat alternative to what you’re already using.

A cool thing about it is the lack of a setup process, which allows you to take it for a spin as soon as download is done. Note, however, that .NET Framework needs to be installed on your computer, because it’s a mandatory requirement for functionality. It can easily be carried around on a thumb drive as a portable audio player.

As the name might suggest, the visual style is meant to somewhat resemble an Apple iPod device. This isn’t accomplished in high-fidelity, and the texture is still wrapped around a classic window frame. There’s an upper playlist and set of playback controls, as well as the round dial which holds navigation and load functions.

In terms of file support, the application is capable of playing some popular formats, such as MP3, WAV, and MP4, but this is barely enough to cover high-quality audio files. Although you can create a playlist on the spot, it can’t be saved, and there’s no possibility to load a playlist file for easier management.

Playback controls are basic, letting you start, pause, and stop playback, skip through content, or adjust volume through a dedicated slider. Unfortunately, there’s no hotkey support, and a multimedia keyboard doesn’t really have an effect here. Moreover, it’s devoid of shuffle and repeat functions.

All things considered, we can state that WindowsPod is just a straightforward audio player which aims to bring some nostalgia to your desktop, while allowing you to play audio files. Unfortunately, it doesn’t quite manage this well, being devoid of some rudimentary playback functions and playlist controls.
